Beginner Guitar Chord Lesson – Learn A Major 7

The A Major 7 Guitar Chord (also known as A Major Seventh, AMaj7 or AMajor 7th), like the other Major Seventh Chords, is a beautiful dreamy and jazzy sounding chord, and fairly easy to play.

The A Major 7th Chord is found by locating the 1(root note), 3 , 5 and 7 positions (A, C#, E and G#) of the A Major Scale: A B C# D E F# G# A. The chord diagram chart below demonstrates how to play the AMaj7 Chord.

Chord Playing Tips: Be sure that you are pressing down on the strings hard enough and play each string one at a time to make sure you have a nice clean sound. If any of the strings buzz or sound muted, then something is not right.

The video below will further demonstrate how to play the AMaj7 Chord.

I’ve been playing alittle for years, more of a pastime or relaxer. I know maybe a dozen or more cords and can play a few songs I’ve either figured out or picked up from friends. I would like to advance and not sure which direction to head. I’ve never had a lesson so now when I pick up the guitar, it’s play most of what I know until my fingers start to hurt. I think maybe lessons to find some good practice methods would be a good start. I play mostly classic rock and country. Anybody got ideas to help?
