Another excellent lesson from David Taub with Next level guitar. This is a great lesson for the absolute beginner out there who is looking for a simple way to take your guitar playing to another level.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qakh9tVr9U

In this lesson, David will first teach you how to play 4 very basic guitar chords.

These are all very easy chords that David will be teaching you that only require one or two fingers to play and they are: E Minor, G Major, Asus2 and Am9. With the G Major chord, you are welcome to play a normal G Major chord. If you aren’t able to , David will teach you a scaled down version of a G. You will only need one finger to play this G chord. Watch the video for a complete demonstration on how to play all of these chords, or you can click the links above that will take you to separate lessons on how to play each chord.

David will then teach you several different strumming patterns to use with these 4 chords.

The first will be a very basic quarter note pattern with all downward strums. (the top line are the chords and the bottom line is the strumming pattern. d = down):

Em/G/Asus2/Am9
d/d/d/d

The strumming pattern will then get more advanced and musical. The quarter note pattern is just to get you used to the chord changes.

The next pattern is:

Em/G/Asus2/Am9
d d/d/u

An up strum as well as a rest has now been introduced giving this strumming pattern some life. The rhythm has also changed from one note per beat to two.

The next pattern is:

Em/G/Asus2/Am9
d/u/d/u/u/d/u

Now things are getting a little more advanced. This is a little more challenging but definitely more interesting. This time you will be staying on each chord for 2 measures.

The last pattern is:

Em/G/Asus2/Am9
d/d u/d/u

David is going to demonstrate how to play something that sounds beautiful without being impossible to play.

One trick that makes this chord progression easier is that David is using moveable chords. This means you can play the same chord shape at different locations on the guitar fret board. You just slide your hand up and down the fretboard while maintaining the same chord shape.

Apart from being fairly easy to play, these chords also sound quite beautiful as they utilize the open strings of your guitar. Learn exactly how its done by watching the lengthy video tutorial below.

Here is a great acoustic guitar lesson from David Taub with Next Level Guitar. In the following video tutorial, David will teach you a cool kind of classic rock chord progression that has a sort of Eagles vibe to it.

Like complimentary colors in visual art, there are certain things that go very nicely together in music and one is the use of Major and Major 7th chords, specifically, when played right after one another. You have that one note movement where you are adding the 7th to a major chord that really gives it a sweet sound.

David also teaches how to properly strum during this chord progression by incorporating rests into the progression. Its the rests that give a progression its musicality and prevents it from sounding robotic.

For this progression, you will need to know the following chords: D Major, Dmaj7, G Major, Gmaj7, E Minor and A Major

The strumming pattern is (Where D=Downward Strum): D D/D D/D/D

The spaces in the above pattern denote a rest. David will demonstrate and explain everything in the video below. I hope you enjoy and learn something new today!

Here is another great lesson taught by David Taub with Next Level Guitar. I feature a lot of videos from these folks and with good reason. I believe David and the folks over at Next Level Guitar are a group of excellent guitar instructors. Their lessons are easy to follow and you can tell its not just about business. They have a passion for playing guitar and a sincere interest in helping others. That being said, you can learn more about them here by reading my David Taub Next Level Guitar Review, should you want to invest into your guitar playing. After all, free lessons can only take you so far.

In the following video tutorial, David is going to teach you a very interesting chord progression/strumming pattern. The purpose of this lesson is to break you away from playing the same old chords and progressions and teach you something new and challenging.

The chords he will be using in the lesson below are: Am9, Gadd6, Fmaj7#11 and Em. Not to worry, none of these are barre chords, but you may find the Gadd6 and Fmaj7#11 chord shapes a bit challenging at first. They both have the same shape, so it is just a matter of playing the same shape at different locations on the neck. David will demonstrate how to play every chord within this progression.

I hope this lesson proves to be helpful and forces you to try something new so that you can bring your guitar playing to the Next Level. Enjoy!

In this post you will discover some great tips, techniques and exercises that will help you switch between your basic beginner open guitar chords easier and faster. In order to become better at this, you need to learn some tricks of the trade as well as put in the proper amount of practice time. Eventually, learning how to switch between chords will become second nature.

The very first thing you need to do is to limit yourself to only learning a couple of chords at a time. If you try to learn too many things at once, there is a good chance you will become overwhelmed and that is only going to get you more frustrated. So try and tackle two chords at a time. Start with a very easy chord change, say E Minor to A Major.

There are some really effective techniques you can learn that will really help burn these chord changes into your muscle memory. Here is one that Marty discusses in the video lesson below. Play an open D Major Chord and try to keep that chord shape with your fingers. Now with your fingers still holding that shape, move your hand away from the guitar and then back to the fretboard and play the same chord again. Repeat again and then do the same thing with another chord shape. This kind of repetition is what really burns these chord shapes into your memory and helps you learn faster.

Check out the video below for more great tips and techniques from Marty Schwartz!
