This song is off of Bruno’s debut studio album entitled ”Doo-Wops & Hooligans“, which was released in October of 2010. It is the third single from this album which was officially released in February of 2011. Mars is credited with writing this song along with K’naan and his production team The Smeezingtons. This song is taught by the very talented instructor Marty Schwartz, seen in the video lesson below. The version taught below is on the original recording as opposed to the live version of this song. The chords you will need to know are: B Major , F#Major , E Major , Eb7 , C#m , Ebm and Abm.

Learn how to play the song “In the Pines“ also known as “Where Did you Sleep Last Night” as performed by Nirvana with this free guitar lesson. “In the Pines” is actually a traditional American Folk Song dating back to the 1870′s and was only covered by Nirvana as well as a variety of other artists in various Genres. In the original recording, this song is tuned a 1/2 step down from standard tuning. Marty teaches it in standard tuning however to make things easier as you are more than likely in standard tuning at the moment. This lesson in the video below is taught using power chords which Marty will demonstrate, but you can also get away with playing the following chords: E Minor, A Major, G Major and B Major.

Marty teaches two versions of this song on acoustic guitar, in the video lesson below. One is easy and the other is rather challenging.

The difficult version is played with the following chords: F Major, G Minor and B Flat. These are all barre chords and will be rather difficult to play and to switch from one chord to the other.

The easy version is done with a capo on the third fret. The chord shapes you will need for this version are : D Major, E Minor and G Major.

As far as the strumming pattern is concerned, anything will work really if you just want to have fun with this song and aren’t concerned too much with accuracy. Marty discusses several strumming patterns you can use depending on your skill level.
