Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues Guitar Lesson

Learn how to play  the song “Fulsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash on Acoustic Guitar.  This song was written and recorded by Johnny Cash.  This is undoubtedly one of Cash’s most popular songs.  It was the eleventh track off of his debut album entitled “With His Hot and Blue Guitar”. It was recorded in July of 1955 and released as a single in December of the same year. Cash went on to perform this son live at Folsom Prison in 1968. The song was re-released that same year. You can learn more about the history of this song over at Wikipedia.

This is an easy song that is great for beginners and only uses three chords, and those chords are E Major, A Major and B7.

The strumming pattern is the only challenging aspect of this song, but you don’t have to play it exactly like Johnny Cash did in the original.  You can play a much simpler strumming pattern, as Justin will explain in the video lesson below, until you are able to play the original version.
